BLOCKCHAIN - It really is amazing to me how much the landscape of the blockchain has changed and where we are now compared to a few years ago. It's been over a year since I wrote anything in this blog at all. I haven't stopped my activities with the blockchain. But there hasn't really been anything new to report that I thought worth writing about. The purpose of this blog is to document my own journey with this stuff, and leave some helpful tips to help others navigate the whole thing. A few new things have happened lately, and so it was time to write about it.
Things to cover... I am going to cover 2 or 3 topics in this article. Because individually they don't warrant full articles of their own. Since I already know this is going to get lengthy I'll just get started.
New coins and tokens. How's that going?
So many... SO many coins. It's just absurd. It really is. More are being created every minute of every day. Some 99.9% of them are meme coins that have no value at all. Their entire purpose is to ride a wave, get people to buy in, then sell off. This of course leaves lots of people holding the bag. A few people make money, the rest lose. Back in the good old days, we called that a Ponzi scheme. Today we call it business as usual. Because every single person involved knows it's a Ponzi scheme, and buys in anyway, hoping to be one of the winners.
These things are still coming out, all day long, every single day. How many? How about over 1000 per hour on ETH/Base alone? How about even more than that on the Solana chain? When I say it is an absurd amount of coins, I really mean that it is impossible to calculate just how absurd it really is.
This is the reason that I avoid this part of the crypto ecosystem completely. I get airdrops from some of these shit coins from time to time. If at any point they appear to be worth more than a few cents, I'll swap it for something real as soon as it's possible. But that is my only interaction with that at all. I have no inclination to play that game otherwise.
So what coins do I hold today? The big ones. BTC, ETH, LTC, and SOL. I still have some DOGE too just because. To this day, I have never invested a penny of my own money. Yet I'm holding about $700 or so over a few wallets, not to mention the few $1000 I've liquidated over the years . That is probably a tiny amount to most people. I know I'm a very small fish in this pond. I'm totally fine with that. Still, if you are wondering where all that came from, read more articles on this site.
I watch for the dips and valleys, and I move the coins in and out of stable coins (those that are locked to the $USD and never change value). And I track everything.

It's very much like trading stocks. In fact, it's exactly the same as trading stocks. These coins may not have any actual value, as people like to point out. Except for one thing... These coins HAVE value! At any time, I can sell these coins to $US dollars and withdrawal that money to my bank account. I don't know why so many insist on saying all of this is worthless. As long as people say something has value, then it has value.
This all brings me to an interesting point... I track these things in various wallets. I also hold a bunch of NFTs. The systems in place to just step in and check on what I've got, are just slow, bloated, and cumbersome. I needed something that could allow me to just check on things without all that overhead.
What about web3 coding?
Considering how much time I spend writing code - I wrote the software for the blog you are reading right now - I should probably be able to write some code that can actually, you know, do stuff with the blockchain. But every time I've tried, I despaired. Because all the tools for building stuff that can talk to my wallets are written for frameworks that I don't use. To be sure, I really don't want to learn yet another useless farking framework JUST for the sake of checking my wallets out. So you know what my solution was? AI. Yeah. I said it. I went to my favorite LLM and started having it write all the stuff I needed to do things like connect a wallet, then report what's in it. Then, I modified all that stuff it spit back to make it do other things, like pulling data from wallets without having to be connected.
The AI was able to provide the means of accessing the systems that I never would have thought of on my own. It wasn't easy, really. But I finally got the results I was looking for.
These demos here more or less show what I'm talking about.
Connect wallet, view first 20 NFTs - You connect your MetaMask wallet, and it shows you the first 20 NFTs
Connect Phantom - View stuff - The same thing, really but reads the Phantom Wallet
Check balance on any wallet - With this one you don't need to connect the wallet. It just reads the BASE balance on whatever wallet you put in the form. You can use the drop down to see one of mine, or just paste your own in that box. There is also a link in there to see the NFTs like the one above.
Those pages are nothing but JavaScript. And no need for larger bloated frameworks. No server side code. No signatures required. No transactions take place. Do I want to expand on that at some point to do more? Maybe. But for now I'm just happy to have figured out a way to do THAT much.
Flipping NFTs
Here's a fun story for you... I sold some NFTs a few weeks back that were worth enough that I found myself with a few $100 in Base ETH. The coin itself is worth a good bit. So that's good. But I was thinking about faster ways to get some return on it. It occurred to me that there are NFTs that are moving all the time. People are flipping them like mad. So I did some quick research and found 2 collections that seemed like a good investment for a quick flip.
The first one I tried, they are only worth a couple of bucks. I was hoping these would flip by now. But nah. Not yet. And this is how these sorts of things usually go. What will actually flip is anyone's guess. A shooting match. Or perhaps the best way to say it, dumb luck. I DO have them for sale here though, because of course I do.
That isn't exactly what this story is about, though. I told that part first as a blatant shameless plug.
THIS is what the story is. Here is a great dumb luck story.
I found the Based Ape Gang. At the time I found these things, the floor price was 0.001, or about $21 USD. I bought 2 of them. They looked like this.

I put them up for sale at just above the floor price. About 2 days later they sold for 0.01 ETH , or about $25. I made a total of $6 profit in 2 days. That was pretty good. So I shuffled that profit off to the USDC stable coin, and went back to do that again.
The floor price was up to 0,0103. So they were already more expensive than the first time. I bought 2 of them again. I then put them up for sale at higher than floor, expecting to sit on them for 2 days again. They sold within the hour. I made a $20 profit that fast.
So I went back to do it again. Well, now the floor is 0.0268, or about $65 each!! Damn! That means 2 things... First, I should have sold the ones I had for WAY more, because that is what they are for sale for now by the new owner. And second, I can't afford to do that again. That's too much for me to risk
What did I learn from this little exercise?
Well, it is absolutely possible to flip NFTs and make money. But you have to be incredibly lucky in not only finding a collection that moves like that, but getting in and out at the right time. The reason I say it that way it that I've looked at the history on that collection. It has peaked higher than this, and it has sold lower than this. All of those people that are buying in right now, are buying at the top of that curve. The current curve. It will come back down.
When will it come down again? Unknown. But the general pattern is that people will hold these for a while, and gradually start selling them for less and less until the floor is down to where I first found it.
Now scroll back up and buy the 2 NFTs I have linked up and you can play too!
Selling NFTs in general
I'm still trying to sell collections of my own. But, man, that market is just SO saturated. Thanks to a shift to Programatic Mints, where everything is automatic and super cheap, the market is flooded with low-effort collections. Any person can now use one of those free tools to generate a 10,000 piece collection and deploy it for sale in just a few minutes. At the peak of this nonsense, there were 20 or so new collections per hour. That was back in 2022 or so. Things have slowed down considerably since then. It's more like 1 or 2 an hour now. But what this also means is that the blockchain is just overloaded with noise and slop.
What I find annoying about this is that I actually put work into my NFT collections. Yes, I used generative AI for a lot of stuff. But I also created a lot by hand, or used actual photographs. The bottom line is that I did not just write a script to generate 1000s of images at random, and release that as a "collection". But that's what I'm up against. The market is SO full of automated slop that it's quite impossible to get any attention at all. And yes, I find that annoying as hell.
It seems to me that the best way to not be invisible in the noise it to write about my experience with this stuff and provide links to examples of the things I'm talking about. My hope is that showing the internet that real people like myself still exist, and we are still creating content. We are not using AI to develop everything for us. We still use our hands and put in the effort, put in the work, and care about what we do.
This seems like a good place to end this now...
I've said plenty in this article. I hope you found it entertaining. I hope you learned something from it. I hope you take what you learned here and use that to go start your own journey. Maybe you can make some money. Maybe you are a creator and you are trying to figure out the best way to enter this game. I wish you the best of luck either way!

Assuming you can figure out how. Hopefully this article will help clear up some of that confusion and help bring buyers back to my collections!
